The roses are in full bloom, and I noticed chicory along the roadsides.
It's early. We don't usually see chicory before July 4th.

Tip-toe through the tulips! Our 80' tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipifera)
is
in full bloom. The yellowish tulip-like flowers are high up in the tree
and
are best seen through an upstairs window. It's pretty good for a six inch
bare-root seedling I tore out of a crack in the Procathedral parking lot
and planted here in 1988.

Our native rosebay rhododendrons (Rhododendron maximum) are
loaded with swollen buds ready to burst into their white/pink blossoms
in time for the 4th of July. We had quite a show with the earlier little
leaf and Piedmont rhododendrons and also the Asian and native
magnolias this year. This is all still very exotic for a native
Wisconsinite
and for a Cruzian from the tropics where there is no spring.

My flock of plastic pink flamingos is marching across the garden looking
very pleased.

David Strang.
