This lovely poem was written by Laurence Housman (1865-1959).

We came across it, years ago, quoted by HRL Sheppard in his essay 'What is Meant by the "Kingdom of God"?' in Asking Them Questions (Oxford University Press, 1936). That book is long out of print.
