RESOLUTION of the Synod of the Province of South East Asia passed unanimously at the 1st Meeting of the 2nd Session on 25 February 2000 at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.
THE SYNOD OF THE PROVINCE OF THE ANGLICAN CHURCH IN SOUTH EAST ASIA NOTES that on 29 January 2000, the Most Revd Dr Moses Tay, then Archbishop and Primate of the Province participated in the consecration of John Rodgers of Ambridge and Chuck Murphy of Pawleys Island (South Carolina) as missionary bishops for the United States.
THE SYNOD HAVING BEEN APPRAISED OF THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE CONSECRATION HEREBY -
AFFIRMS OUR BELIEFS that the unity of the Anglican church must be grounded fundamentally in Scripture and in the historic Faith entrusted to us.
AFFIRMS OUR SUPPORT for the Parishes and clergy under threat because of their loyalty to the Gospel and the Anglican Faith.
NOTES the reason proferred by Bishop Moses Tay (then Archbishop of the Province) in his letter to the Archbishop of Canterbury dated 30 January 2000 (Annexure 1), that the consecration in Singapore of John Rodgers and Chuck Murphy was an interim action to provide pastoral assistance and nurture to faithful individuals and congregations in the respective areas they are called to serve.
RESPECTS the principles upon which Bishop Moses Tay had acted.
FIRMLY upholds the 1998 Lambeth Resolutions on Biblical Authority and Morality.
